VW ID.4 Electric rear-wheel and all-wheel drive ➜ Removing and installing battery modules control unit

Electric rear-wheel drive EIP220 and all-wheel drive EIA200, EIP220 - Edition 11.2021  
– After installing a high-voltage connecting bracket, measure it  
against housing to check for short circuits.  
– Plug in electrical connector -2-.  
– Detach contact protection -T10608- -B- from battery module  
-1-.  
– Fit contact protection -T10628- -A-.  
– Install high-voltage connecting bracket -3-.  
– Tighten bolts -2-.  
– Have a second mechanic monitor torques.  
– After installing a high-voltage connecting bracket, measure it  
against housing to check for short circuits.  
Tightening torques  
Installation is carried out in reverse order; note the following:  
♦ ⇒ Rep. gr. 93; Assembly overview – high-voltage battery,  
battery modules

Special tools and workshop equipment required  
♦ High-voltage tool set -VAS 6762-  
♦ Torque wrench, insulated -VAS 691 001-  
DANGER  
Danger to life from high voltage.  
Electric shocks or arcs may lead to serious injuries or death.  
– Suitable personal protective equipment (PPE) must be  
worn for the subsequent work steps.  
– The subsequent work steps must be supervised by an  
additional specialist with appropriate qualification.  
– Outside the hazard area, the additional authorised special‐  
ist can support the HVE as required within the scope of his  
or her qualification.  
Put on the required protective equipment for the subsequent  
work steps:  
♦ Arc flash resistant clothing (at least APC 2, at least 318 kJ)  
♦ Helmet with arc flash resistant visor (at least APC 2, at least  
318 kJ)

♦ Arc flash resistant gloves with nitrile glove liners (at least  
APC 2, at least 318 kJ), insulating up to at least 500 V  
♦ Safety shoes with ESD protection  
The battery modules control unit -J1208- will henceforth be re‐  
ferred to as “battery modules control unit”.  
The battery modules control unit 5 -J1212- will henceforth be  
referred to as “battery modules control unit”.  
The battery modules control unit 9 -J1216- will henceforth be  
referred to as “battery modules control unit”.  
Removing  
– ⇒ Rep. gr. 93; Opening high-voltage battery 1 [AX2].  
– ⇒ Rep. gr. 93; Opening electrical circuit, 48, 55 kWh.  
NOTICE  
Interchanging may lead to damage to the high-voltage bat‐  
tery 1 -AX2-.  
– Mark installation position of electrical connectors, cable  
ducts and location of battery modules control unit.  
– Disconnect electrical connectors -1-, -3- and -4-, and move  
electrical wire to one side.  
– Unscrew bolts -2-.  
– Remove battery modules control unit -1-.  
Installing  
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

– ⇒ Rep. gr. 93; Opening electrical circuit, 48, 55 kWh.  
– Fit accidental contact protection insert -T10628- onto battery  
module 1 -J991-.
