5.1.1
Calibrating adaptive cruise control, dy‐
namic
Preparation
– Observe general ⇒ f4.1 or calibration and surrounding condi‐
tions”, page 19 .
The adaptive cruise control system must be calibrated, after the
following work has been performed on the vehicle:
•
•
•
•
•
Changes to wheel alignment on rear axle.
Ride height adjustment on one axle by more than 5 mm.
Ride height adjustment on both axles by more than 10 mm.
Removal and installation or renewal of front bumper cover.
After renewal of adaptive cruise control unit -J428-.
– Check sensors, holders and fasteners for damage, manipu‐
lation and secure fit.
– Read and clear event memory using ⇒ Vehicle diagnostic
tester.
Calibrating
•
⇒ Vehicle diagnostic tester connected.
– Select “My test plan”.
– Press following function buttons:
♦ Diagnosis-compatible systems
♦ 0013 – Adaptive cruise control
♦ 0013 – Adaptive cruise control, functions
♦ 0013 – Calibration
– Follow instructions on ⇒ Vehicle diagnostic tester.

♦ ACC reflector mirror -VAS 6430/10-
♦ setting device -VAS 6430-
The adaptive cruise control unit -J428- will henceforth be refer‐
red to as “sensor”.
•
The bumper cover remains installed during calibration.

•
If the position of the ACC reflecting mirror -VAS 6430/10-
on alignment beam is changed during the calibration, the
setting of setting device -VAS 6430- must be checked again
(e.g. spirit levels, individual toe values on alignment beam,
etc.).
Preparation
– Observe general ⇒ f4.1 or calibration and surrounding condi‐
tions”, page 19 .
The adaptive cruise control system must be calibrated, after the
following work has been performed on the vehicle:
•
•
•
•
•
If wheel alignment has just been carried out, the steps
described under “Calibration without preceding wheel align‐
ment” can be disregarded.
– Check sensors, holders and fasteners for damage, manipu‐
lation and secure fit.
Calibration without preceding wheel alignment
– Select program on alignment computer.
– Observe test prerequisites for wheel alignment ⇒ Running
gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr. 44; Wheel alignment; Test
prerequisites.
– Read and clear event memory using ⇒ Vehicle diagnostic
tester.
– Verify whether there is sufficient space between vehicle and
setting device -VAS 6430-.
•
The distance between the setting device -VAS 6430- and
sensor must be 120 cm ± 2.5 cm.
•
If there is not enough space, move vehicle backwards onto
wheel alignment platform as required to make space.
– Drive vehicle straight onto wheel alignment platform.
– Move wheels to straight-ahead position.
– Install quick-release clamps to rear wheels.
– Install wheel alignment sensors to quick-release clamps.
– Install ACC reflector mirror -VAS 6430/10- centrally and par‐
allel to setting device -VAS 6430-.
All vehicles (continued)
– Install ACC reflector mirror -VAS 6430/10--1- centrally and
parallel to setting device -VAS 6430-.

– Position setting device -VAS 6430- with ACC reflector mirror
-VAS 6430/10--1- parallel to sensor at distance -a-.
•
Dimension -a- = 120 cm ± 2.5 cm
– Fit wheel alignment sensors of front wheels -1- onto align‐
ment beam.
– Turn adjuster screws -1-, -2- and -3- until spirit levels -A- and
-B- on ACC reflector mirror -VAS 6430/10--5- are horizontal.
– Adjust ACC reflector mirror -VAS 6430/10- on side of align‐
ment beam in such a way that the laser beam is centred on
bumper trim.
– Bring spirit levels of wheel alignment sensors into horizontal
position.

– Turn adjuster screw -4- until display on wheel alignment
computer is within tolerance.
– Turn adjuster screws -1-, -2- and -3- until spirit levels -A- and
-B- on ACC reflector mirror -VAS 6430/10--5- are horizontal.
– Make sure that spirit levels -A- and -B- are horizontal and
that the laser beam is centred on trim.
•
If the laser beam is not centred on the trim, adjust ACC
reflector mirror -VAS 6430/10--5- anew.
