Battery (12V): checking battery termi‐  
nal clamps for secure seating  
Special tools and workshop equipment required  
♦ Torque wrench  
Note  
A securely seated battery terminal clamp ensures trouble  
free function and long service life of the battery.  
When securing terminal clamp, ensure that it is completely  
seated on battery terminal.  
NOTICE  
The battery clamp on the positive terminal is not firmly attach‐  
ed.  
Potential short circuit or sparks.  
– First, always disconnect the battery earth strap from the  
battery negative terminal.  
– Release locking lug -3-.  
– Remove cover for high-voltage connection on vehicle front  
end -2-.  
– Remove cover for high-voltage connection on vehicle front  
end -1- from guide.  
– Check battery -1- for secure seating. If necessary, retighten  
bolt -3- on securing bracket -2- to specified torque.

– If fitted, open cover over battery positive terminal.  
– Check battery terminal clamps -1- and -3- for secure seating.  
If necessary, retighten nuts -2- and -4-.

Carry out following procedures after connecting battery:  
Procedure  
⇒ Electrical system; Rep. gr. 27; Battery; Disconnecting and  
connecting battery

Battery (12V): checking  
Use only vehicle diagnostic tester to check battery in ID.4 / ID.5.  
Test and adjustment conditions  
Charge level (SOC) of battery ≥80%.  
Visual check carried out.  
Battery terminal clamps checked for secure seating.  
Procedure  
– Visually inspect condition of exterior, connections, firm seat‐  
ing, plugs of vent openings (negative terminal side open and  
positive terminal side closed) and electrolyte level indicator  
of battery.  
– If electrolyte level is too low (indicator »clear/light yellow«),  
renew battery.  
– Battery (12V): check battery terminal clamp for secure seat‐  
ing.  
– Connect vehicle diagnostic tester ⇒ page 12 .
