Installation notes  
♦ The bonded step mouldings cannot be removed without  
damage.  
♦ Use hot air blower -V.A.G 1416- to heat up step moulding in  
area of bonding surfaces prior to removal.  
♦ Remove any existing adhesive residue of adhesive tape us‐  
ing adhesive strip remover -VAS 6349-.  
♦ If a step moulding is removed and reinstalled, use only the  
adhesive remover -VAS 6349- to remove the adhesive resi‐  
due.

♦ Ensure that the bonding surfaces are free of dust and  
grease.  
♦ The step moulding must be bonded in place immediately  
after cleaning.  
♦ Do not remove protective backing until immediately before  
installation.  
♦ Working temperature is approx. 21 Β°C.  
Removal and installation are described for the left side of vehi‐  
cle as an example.  
Removing  
– Use hot air blower -V.A.G 1416- to heat up step moulding  
-1-, and pull it off side member -2-.  
Installing  
– Observe installation instructions.  
– Align step moulding -1-:  
♦ Dimension -a- = 175.5 mm

– Pull protective backing off new step moulding -1-.  
– Bond step moulding -1- in place, and push it onto side mem‐  
ber -2-.

♦ adhesive strip remover -VAS 6349-

Installation notes  
♦ Due to double-sided adhesive tape, the side member trim  
cannot be removed without damage  
♦ Use hot air blower -V.A.G 1416- to heat up side member trim  
in area of bonding surfaces prior to removal.  
♦ Remove any existing adhesive residue of adhesive tape us‐  
ing adhesive strip remover -VAS 6349-.  
♦ Use only adhesive remover -VAS 6349- to remove adhesive  
residue.  
♦ Ensure that the bonding surfaces are free of dust and

♦ The side member trim must be bonded in place immediately

Removing  
– Remove front and rear wheel arch cover β‡’ Rep. gr. 66;  
Removing and installing wheel arch covers.  
– Unscrew bolts -3- from side member trim -1-.

– Use hot air blower -V.A.G 1416- to heat up side member trim  
-1- in area of bonding surface -2- prior to removal.  
– Carefully insert removal wedge -3409- between side mem‐  
ber and side member trim -1-.  
– As soon as bonded joint is detached, pull side member trim  
-1- with clips -4- out of grommets -5- in side member.  
Installing  
– Observe installation instructions.  
– Press side member trim -1- with clips -4- into grommets -5-  
on side member.  
– Align side member trim -1- longitudinally.  
– Tighten bolt -3- at front side of side member.  
– Tighten bolts -3- at bottom side of side member.  
– Use removal aid to pull protective backing off double-sided  
adhesive tape -2- upwards and towards rear.  
– Press on side member trim -1- forcefully and evenly in bond‐  
ing area.

Continue installation in reverse order of removal, observing the  
following:

– Starting at bottom, pull water deflector strip -1- out of retain‐  
ing strip -2-.  
Installing  
– Position upper inner edge of water deflector -1- on upper  
edge of windscreen.  
– Press water deflector strip -1- from above into retaining strip  
-2-.

CAUTION  
Risk of eye injuries due to metal swarf.  
Eye irritation and injury possible.  
– Put on safety goggles.  
– Drill out rivet heads -arrows- and punch out rivet shanks.  
– Remove retaining strip -1-.  
Installing  
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:  
The left and right retaining strips are not identical.  
Make sure that the correct retaining strip is installed.  
– Rivet retaining strip starting at bottom.

Removal and installation are described for the left side of vehi‐  
cle as an example.  
Removing  
– Use commercially available wedge to lever A-pillar trim -1-  
off grommets -2-.  
Installing  
Important

If the securing pins -2- are damaged, the A-pillar trim must  
be renewed.  
– Push A-pillar trim -1- with securing pins -2- into grommets  
-3-.

front door  
Removal and installation are described for the left side of vehi‐  
cle as an example.  
Removing  
– Lower door window completely.  
– Remove outer window slot seal β‡’ Rep. gr. 57; Removing  
and installing outer window slot seal.  
– Pull out window channel -3- in area of B-pillar trim on front  
door -1- in direction of -arrow A-.  
– Unscrew and unclip bolts -2- from spreader rivets.  
– Push B-pillar trim on front door -1- in direction of -arrow B-,  
and pull it off slightly at top in direction of -arrow C- until the  
guide hooks -4- are released from door frame -5-.  
– Pull out B-pillar trim on front door -1- in direction of  
-arrow D-.

Installing  
– Guide B-pillar trim on front door -1- in direction of -arrow A-  
into window slot.  
– Push B-pillar trim on front door -1- in direction of -arrow B-  
against door frame -5- and in direction of -arrow C- until  
guide hooks -4- engage in door frame -5-.  
– Press in bolts with spreader rivets -2-.  
– Insert window channel -3- in direction of -arrow D- in B-pillar  
trim on front door -1-.  
Continue installation in reverse order of removal.

– Lower door window completely.  
– Pull out window channel -3- in area of B-pillar trim on rear

– Unscrew and unclip bolts -2- from spreader rivets.  
– Push B-pillar trim on rear door -1- in direction of -arrow C-,  
and pull it off slightly in direction of -arrow D - until the guide  
hooks -4- are released from door frame.  
– Pull out B-pillar trim on rear door -1- in direction of -arrow E-.  
Installing  
– Fit B-pillar trim on rear door -1- in direction of -arrow A- to  
door frame  
– Push B-pillar trim on rear door -1- in direction of -arrow B-  
into window slot.  
– Push B-pillar trim on rear door -1- in direction of -arrow C-  
until guide hooks -4- engage in door frame.  
– Press in bolts with spreader rivets -2-.  
– Insert window channel -3- in direction of -arrow D- and  
-arrow E- in B-pillar trim on rear door -1-.

Removing and installing C-pillar trim  
Special tools and workshop equipment required  
♦ hot air blower -V.A.G 1416-  
♦ roller -3356-  
♦ wedge -T10383-  
Removal and installation are described for the left side of vehi‐  
cle as an example.  
The C-pillar trim cannot be removed without being damaged.  
Removing  
– Use hot air blower -V.A.G 1416- to carefully heat up C-pillar  
trim -1- area of adhesive tape -3-.  
– Use wedge -T10383--2- to unclip clips -4-.  
Installing  
Important

Make sure that vehicle and C-pillar trim are at room temper‐  
ature.  
β€’
The bonding surfaces must be free of dirt and grease.  
– Remove any adhesive residue from vehicle.  
– Clean bonding surface on vehicle, and allow it to dry.  
– Pull protective backing off adhesive tape at removal aid.  
– Guide C-pillar trim -1- in direction of -arrow A- in roof trim  
strip -3-.  
– Align clips of C-pillar trim -1- on C-pillar -2-.  
– Push on C-pillar trim -1- until clips can be heard to engage.

– Use roller -3356--2- to press on C-pillar trim -1- in area of  
adhesive tape -3- in direction of -arrow-.  
Important

Allow vehicle to stand at room temperature for at least  
30 minutes.

The wheel arch cover cannot be removed without being dam‐  
aged.  
– Detach front wheel housing liner in area of wing β‡’ Rep.  
gr. 66; Removing and installing front wheel housing liner.  
– Unscrew bolt -2-

– Pull locking devices -3- in direction of -arrow A- out of front  
bumper cover.  
NOTICE  
Risk of damage to component surfaces.  
– Before using a lever, always mask off the components  
installed in visible areas using commercially available ad‐  
hesive tape.  
– Use wedge β€œno. 24” from removal wedge set -VAS 895 015-  
to press together -arrows B- clips -4-.  
– Pull wheel arch cover -1- in direction of -arrow C- off wing.  
Installing  
– Remove protective backing from double-sided adhesive  
tape.  
Continue installation in reverse order of removal, observing the  
following:
