The description for the removal of bonded windows is described  
is based on the windscreen removal kit -VAS 861 001A-.

The removal kit for flush bonded windows -V.A.G 1474B- or  
removal kit for flush bonded windows -VAS 6452- may also be  
used.  
Removing  
– Remove upper A-pillar trim on left and right ⇒ General body  
repairs, interior; Rep. gr. 70; Trims, interior; Removing and  
installing A-pillar trim.  
– Remove left and right sun visors ⇒ General body repairs,  
interior; Rep. gr. 68; Equipment; Removing and installing  
sun visor.  
– Removing interior mirror ⇒ General body repairs, interior;  
Rep. gr. 68; Interior mirror; Removing and installing interior  
mirror.  
Vehicles with rain and light sensor  
– Remove rain and light sensor -G397- ⇒ Electrical system;

– Lower moulded headliner sufficiently to allow for cutting out  
windscreen without damage to moulded headliner. ⇒ Gener‐

– Insert cut-out protector from windscreen removal set -VAS  
861 001A- between cutting cord and trims in interior.  
– Insert cutting cord -VAS 861 001/1A--2- in awl -1-.

– Wear safety goggles.  
– Wear protective gloves.

NOTICE  
Risk of damage to component surfaces.  
– Mask off surrounding components in the visible area with  
commercially available adhesive tape.  
– Mask off exit area -arrow- of awl -1- at body flange with  
adhesive tape.  
– In this area, pierce awl -1- through adhesive bead from in‐  
side towards outside, and pull through cutting cord -VAS 861  
001/1A--2- towards outside.  
– Lay cutting cord -VAS 861 001/1A--1- under windscreen all  
around.  
– Use threading aid -1- from windscreen removal set -VAS  
861 001A- to insert cutting cord -VAS 861 001/1A--2- under  
cover profile.  
– Secure -arrow- outer end of cutting cord -VAS 861  
001/1A--1- to right hinge -2-.  
3. Windscreen

– Secure removal device with reel device -1- to inner side of  
window at bottom left.  
– Insert cutting cord -VAS 861 001/1A--3- in reel device  
-arrow-.  
– Use reel device to tension cutting cord -VAS 861 001/1A--3-.  
– Insert cut-out protector -2- from windscreen removal set -  
VAS 861 001A- between cutting cord -VAS 861 001/1A--3-  
and dash panel trim.  
– Use cutting cord -VAS 861 001/1A--1- to cut free lower sec‐  
tion of windscreen.  
– Move removal device -1- to upper left corner of windscreen.  
– Use cutting cord -VAS 861 001/1A--1- to cut free area at left  
A-pillar in direction of -arrow-.

– Move removal device -2- to upper right corner of wind‐  
screen.  
– Insert cut-out protector -1- from windscreen removal set -  
VAS 861 001A- between cutting cord -VAS 861 001/1A--3-  
and moulded headliner.  
– Use cutting cord -VAS 861 001/1A--1- to cut free upper sec‐  
tion of windscreen.  
– Move removal device -1- to lower right corner of windscreen.  
3. Windscreen

– Use cutting cord -VAS 861 001/1A--1- to cut free area at  
right A-pillar in direction of -arrow-.  
– Use two suction lifters to lift windscreen out of vehicle.  
Installing  
– ⇒ Rep. gr. 64; Prepare old undamaged windows for instal‐  
ling.  
– ⇒ Rep. gr. 64; Prepare new windows for installing.  
– ⇒ Rep. gr. 64; Prepare body flange for installing.  
– ⇒ Rep. gr. 64; Installation instructions for bonded windows.  
– ⇒ Rep. gr. 64; Minimum drying times for bonded windows.  
Continue installation in reverse order of removal, observing the  
following:  
– Calibrate control unit for head-up display -J898- ⇒ Electrical  
system; Rep. gr. 90; Dash panel insert; Calibrating control  
unit for head-up display [J898].  
Vehicles with front camera for driver assist systems  
– Calibrate front camera for driver assist systems -R242-  
⇒ Driver assist systems; Rep. gr. 98; Front camera for driver  
assist systems; Calibrating front camera for driver assist sys‐  
tems.
