Removing and installing side spoiler  
Special tools and workshop equipment required  
♦ adhesive remover -VAS 6349-  
♦ adhesive strip remover -VAS 6349-  
♦ hot air blower -V.A.G 1416-  
Fitting instructions  
♦ The bonded side spoilers cannot be removed without dam‐  
age.  
♦ Use hot air blower -V.A.G 1416- to heat up side spoiler in  
area of bonding surfaces prior to removal.  
♦ Remove any existing adhesive residue of adhesive tape us‐  
ing adhesive strip remover -VAS 6349-.

♦ If a side spoiler is removed and reinstalled, use only the ad‐  
hesive remover -VAS 6349- to remove the adhesive residue.  
♦ Ensure that the adhesive surfaces are free of dust and  
grease.  
♦ The side spoiler must be bonded in place immediately after  
cleaning.  
♦ Do not remove protective backing until immediately before  
installation.  
♦ Working temperature is approx. 21 °C.  
Removal and installation are described for the left side of vehi‐  
cle as an example.  
Removing  
– Remove spoiler trim ⇒ a2.3 nd installing spoiler trim”, page  
212 .  
– Unscrew bolt -6-.  
– Use hot air blower -V.A.G 1416- to heat up side spoiler -1- in  
area of bonding surface -3-.  
– Press together locking devices -4- in direction of -arrow A-.  
– Pull side spoiler -1- in direction of -arrow B- off rear lid -5-.  
Installing  
– Observe installation instructions.  
– Pull protective backing off adhesive tape -2-.

– Position side spoiler -1- with centring pin -6- and locking  
devices -3- on rear lid -4-, and align it.  
– Push side spoiler -1- in direction of -arrow- against rear lid  
-4-.  
Make sure that the locking devices -3- engage correctly in rear  
lid -4-.  
– Tighten bolt -5-.  
Tightening torques

Removing and installing spoiler trim  
Removing  
– Pull trim -2- in direction of -arrow A- off spoiler -1-.  
– Disconnect electrical connector -4- for high-level brake light  
bulb -M25--3-.

Removing  
– Check clips -1- for damage.  
– Connect electrical connector -3- for high-level brake light  
bulb -M25--4-.  
– Position trim -2- on carrier -5-, and align it.  
– Push clips -1- into openings in carrier -5-.  
– Push on Velcro tape -6- in area of high-level brake light bulb  
-M25--4-.

Removing and installing spoiler trim  
carrier  
Special tools and workshop equipment required  
♦ adhesive remover -VAS 6349-  
♦ adhesive strip remover -VAS 6349-  
♦ hot air blower -V.A.G 1416-  
The spoiler trim carrier will henceforth be referred to as “carrier”.  
Fitting instructions  
♦ The bonded carrier cannot be removed without being dam‐  
aged.  
♦ Use hot air blower -V.A.G 1416- to heat up carrier in area of  
bonding surfaces prior to removal.  
♦ Remove any existing adhesive residue of adhesive tape us‐  
ing adhesive strip remover -VAS 6349-.  
♦ If a carrier is removed and reinstalled, use only the adhesive  
remover -VAS 6349- to remove the adhesive residue.  
♦ Ensure that the adhesive surfaces are free of dust and  
grease.  
♦ The carrier must be bonded in place immediately after clean‐  
ing.  
♦ Do not remove protective backing until immediately before  
installation.  
♦ Working temperature is approx. 21 °C.

Removing  
– Remove spoiler trim ⇒ a2.3 nd installing spoiler trim”, page  
212 .  
– Use hot air blower -V.A.G 1416- to heat up carrier -1- in area  
of bonding surface -2-, and pull it off spoiler -3-.  
– Use commercially available wedge to unclip locking device  
-4- from rear lid -5-.  
– Pull hose for washer fluid -6- off carrier -1-.  
– Remove carrier -1-.  
Installing  
– Observe installation instructions.  
– Fit hose for washer fluid -7- onto carrier -1-.  
– Pull protective backing off adhesive tape -2-.  
– Insert centring pins -5- into rear lid -6-.  
– Push on carrier -1-.

Make sure that the locking devices -4- engage correctly in rear  
lid -6-.  
– Press carrier -1- in area of bonding surface firmly against  
spoiler -3-.
