Removal and installation are described for the left side of vehi‐  
cle as an example.  
Removing  
The description for the removal of the side window is based on  
the removal kit for flush bonded windows -V.A.G 1474B-.  
The removal kit for flush bonded windows -VAS 6452- may also  
be used.  
– Remove luggage compartment side trim ⇒ General body  
repairs, interior; Rep. gr. 70; Luggage compartment trims;  
Removing and installing luggage compartment side trim.  
NOTICE  
Risk of damage to component surfaces.  
– Mask off surrounding components in the visible area with  
commercially available adhesive tape.  
– Use awl -V.A.G 1474/2--2- to pull cutting cord -VAS 861  
001/1A--1- through adhesive sealant, as shown in illustra‐  
tion.  
– Push aside seal.  
– Use tube -1- to insert cutting cord -VAS 861 001/1A--3- be‐  
hind seal in window flange.  
– Secure end of cutting cord -VAS 861 001/1A--1- to pull han‐  
dle -V.A.G 1351/1--2- for counterholding.  
5. Side windows

– Pull other end of cutting cord -VAS 861 001/1A-  
through adhesive sealant, and secure it to reel device -  
V.A.G 1654A--3-.  
In the area of the clips -4-, greater force is required.  
– Move reel device -V.A.G 1654A--3- to cut free rear side  
window.  
– Use plastic wedge to push cutting cord -VAS 861 001/1A-  
against window while cutting free to ensure sufficient clear‐  
ance to window flange.  
Installing  
– ⇒ Rep. gr. 64; Prepare old undamaged windows for instal‐  
ling.  
– ⇒ Rep. gr. 64; Prepare new windows for installing.  
– ⇒ Rep. gr. 64; Prepare body flange for installing.  
– ⇒ Rep. gr. 64; Installation instructions for bonded windows.  
– ⇒ Rep. gr. 64; Minimum drying times for bonded windows.  
– Guide rear side window with seal -1- in direction of -arrow A-  
into guide -3-, and push it on.  
– Secure rear side window using adhesive tape.

Removing broken rear side window  
A broken rear side window is removed in the same manner as a  
broken rear window ⇒ b4.2.2 roken rear window”, page 192 .
