Removing

– Pull out hose for washer fluid -4-.
– Loosen nuts -2- of hinges -3-.
The aid of an additional mechanic is required for the subse‐
quent work steps.
– Unhook bonnet stay -6- from bonnet -1-.
– Unscrew nuts -2-.
– Remove bonnet -1-.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
NOTICE
Risk of damage to electrical wire if not installed straight.
Electrical wire would pinch and shear.
– Route electrical wire along a curve.

Adjusting bonnet
Special tools and workshop equipment required
♦ setting gauge -3371-
Important
•
The vehicle must be standing on its wheels to ensure proper
adjustment of the bonnet.
•
The bonnet must engage into the bonnet lock without exces‐
sive force.
The bonnet is correctly adjusted when the following applies in
closed condition:
♦ The gaps are even all around.
♦ The contours are flush with each other.

♦ The bonnet does not protrude too far inwards or outwards.

The procedure is described for the left side of vehicle as an
example.
The bonnet can be centred between the wings in direction of
-arrow C- and in direction of -arrow D-.
– Loosen nuts -2-.

The height of the bonnet relative to the wings can be adjusted
in direction of -arrow B-.
The bonnet can be adjusted relative to the bumper cover in
direction of -arrow A-.
– Loosen bolts -3-.
– Verify gaps using setting gauge -3371-. Observe ⇒ Body
Repairs; Rep. gr. 00; Panel gaps; Body – front, when doing
this.
– Apply corrosion protection measures to hinges -1-, nuts -2-
and bolts -3-.
Observe the specifications in the “Paint” workshop manual.

Adjusting adjusting buffer
The adjusting buffers are stabilising the bonnet and serve as
shock absorbers.
– Remove striker pin ⇒ Rep. gr. 55; Removing and installing
striker pin.
The height of the bonnet -2- can be adjusted relative to the front
bumper and the wings.
– Turn adjusting buffer -1- in direction of -arrow A-.
Important
•
When the bonnet -2- is closed, the adjusting buffers -1- must
slightly rest on the stop buffers -3-.

Note
The bonnet contact switch -F266- is installed in the bonnet lock.

Bonnet contact switch -F266- cannot be renewed separately.
Removing
– Remove lock carrier ⇒ Rep. gr. 50; Removing and installing
lock carrier.
– Unclip Bowden cable -2- and wiring harness -6- from retain‐
ers -8-.

– Unscrew bolts -3-.
– Remove bonnet lock -1- in direction of -arrow A- from lock
carrier -7-.
– Unclip retainer -5- from bonnet lock.
– Slightly pull retainer -5- in -direction of arrow B- off bon‐
net lock -1-, and detach Bowden cable -4- in direction of
-arrow C-.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

operating lever
The bonnet lock operating lever will henceforth be referred to as
“operating lever”.
Removal and installation are described for a left-hand drive
vehicle as an example.
Removing
– Release bonnet.
– Insert a small screwdriver into gap between operating lever
-1- and mounting bracket -3-.

– Lever operating lever -1- in direction of -arrow B- off mount‐
ing bracket -3-, and pull retaining clip -2- in direction of
-arrow A- out of operating lever -1-.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
– Perform functional check.
– Close bonnet.

Removing
– Remove lower A-pillar trim ⇒ General body repairs, interior;

– Remove driver-side footwell cover ⇒ General body repairs,
interior; Rep. gr. 68; Compartments/covers; Removing and
installing driver-side footwell cover.
– Remove front wheel housing liner on driver side ⇒ Rep.
gr. 66; Removing and installing front wheel housing liner.
– Remove windscreen wiper motor -V- ⇒ Electrical system;
Rep. gr. 92; Windscreen wiper system; Removing and instal‐
ling windscreen wiper motor [V].
– Detach Bowden cable -1- in direction of -arrow A- from
mounting bracket -2-.

– Pull Bowden cable coupling -1- in direction of -arrow A- off
carrier -3-.
– Pretension Bowden cable -2- in direction of -arrow B-, and
hold it in this position.
– Open cap -1- of Bowden cable coupling -2- in direction of
-arrow A-.
– Remove Bowden cable -3- in direction of -arrow B- from
Bowden cable coupling -2-.
– Pull Bowden cable -1- together with grommet -2- in direction
of -arrow A- off body, and remove it.
Installing
– Guide Bowden cable -1- with grommet -2- in direction of
-arrow A- through opening in body -3- towards vehicle interi‐
or.

– Push grommet -2- into opening in body -3-.
Make sure that grommet -2- is seated correctly.
NOTICE
Risk of malfunction of the bonnet lock due to incorrect position
of the Bowden cable in the Bowden cable coupling.
If the Bowden cable is installed in the wrong position, the
bonnet can no longer be opened.
– Make sure that the Bowden cable is correctly positioned in
the Bowden cable coupling.
– Always carry out a functional check before closing the bon‐
net.
– Attach Bowden cable -1- in direction of -arrow A- to Bowden
cable coupling -2-.
– Use cap -3- of Bowden cable coupling -2- to fix Bowden
cable -1- in position, but do not close cap -3-.
– Pretension Bowden cable -1- in direction of -arrow B-, and
hold it in this position.
– Close cap -3- in direction of -arrow C-.
– Relieve tension from Bowden cable -1- in direction of
-arrow A-.

– Secure Bowden cable coupling -3- in direction of -arrow B-
on carrier -2-.
– Attach Bowden cable -1- in direction of -arrow A- to mount‐
ing bracket -2-.
Continue installation in reverse order of removal, observing the
following:
– Perform functional check.
– Close bonnet.

Removing and installing bonnet stay
Removing
– Support bonnet with suitable workshop equipment.
– Pull bonnet stay -1- out of clip -2-.
– Swing bonnet stay -1- in direction of -arrow A-, and remove it
from rubber grommet -3- in direction of -arrow B-.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal.
