Cleaning threaded connections  
Special tools and workshop equipment required  
♦ contact surface cleaning set -VAS 6410-  
NOTICE  
Risk of damage to threaded connections.  
– The use of rust removers, contact sprays or greases is  
prohibited.  
The battery -A- will henceforth be referred to as “battery”.  
The grey sanding pads are suitable for light soiling and soft  
surfaces.  
The red sanding pads are suitable for heavy soiling and hard  
surfaces.  
Removing  
– Disconnect battery ⇒ Rep. gr. 27; Disconnecting and con‐  
necting battery.  
– Unscrew cable lug of respective threaded connection -1-.  
– Fit adapter -A- from contact surface cleaning set -VAS 6410-  
onto threaded connection -1-, and rotate it back and forth  
-arrows- to grind off corrosion and soiling.

– The use of rust removers, contact sprays or greases is  
prohibited.  
Removing  
– Disconnect battery -A- ⇒ Rep. gr. 27; Disconnecting and  
connecting battery .  
Cleaning battery clamp for battery positive terminal and battery  
positive terminal  
– Detach bracket for fuse holder A -SA-, and lay it aside with  
electrical wiring still connected ⇒ Rep. gr. 27; Removing and  
installing Battery A.  
– Disconnect battery clamp for positive terminal ⇒ Rep. gr. 27;  
Removing and installing Battery A.  
All vehicles (continued)  
– Carry out visual inspection of battery clamp and battery ter‐  
minal for corrosion and soiling.  
– Clean battery clamp -1- by rotating wire brush -A- from  
contact surface cleaning set -VAS 6410- back and forth  
-arrows-.  
– Clean battery terminal -1- by rotating lower side of wire  
brush -A- from contact surface cleaning set -VAS 6410- back  
and forth.  
Installing  
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:  
– Connect battery ⇒ Rep. gr. 27; Disconnecting and connect‐  
ing battery.
