Removing and installing control unit
with display unit for driver information
system [J1254]
Special tools and workshop equipment required
♦ Torque screwdriver -V.A.G 1624-
The control unit with display unit for driver information system
-J1254- will henceforth be referred to as “display unit for driver
information system”.
If the display unit for driver information system is renewed, per‐
form the test plan for the renewal of the display unit for driver
information system using ⇒ Vehicle diagnostic tester.
Removing
– Move steering wheel to rearmost and lowest position. Use
the full range of the steering column adjustment for this pur‐
pose.
– Remove gap cover of dash panel insert ⇒ General body re‐
pairs, interior; Rep. gr. 68; Compartments/covers; Removing
and installing gap cover of dash panel insert.

– Use a commercially available plastic wedge to unclip trim
-1-.
– Disconnect electrical connector -2-.
– Secure display unit for driver information system against fall‐
ing out.
– Unscrew bolts -1-.
– Remove display unit for driver information system.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

Removing and installing control unit for
head-up display [J898]
Special tools and workshop equipment required
♦ Torque screwdriver -V.A.G 1624-
The control unit for head-up display -J898- will henceforth be
referred to as “control unit for head-up display”.
The dynamic light strip 1 for information in dash panel -L385-
will henceforth be referred to as “dynamic light strip”.
If the control unit for head-up display is renewed, perform the
test plan for the renewal of the control unit for head-up display
using ⇒ Vehicle diagnostic tester.
Removing
– Remove windscreen ⇒ General body repairs, exterior; Rep.
gr. 64; Windscreen; Removing and installing windscreen.
