Removing and installing wiper motor  
[V]  
The wiper motor control unit -J400- with wiper motor -V- and  
windscreen wiper limit switch -F229- will henceforth be referred  
to as wiper motor.  
Removal and installation are described for a left-hand drive  
vehicle as an example.  
If the wiper motor is renewed, perform the test plan for the  
renewal of the wiper motor using ⇒ Vehicle diagnostic tester.  
Removing  
– Remove plenum chamber cover ⇒ General body repairs,  
exterior; Rep. gr. 50; Plenum chamber bulkhead; Removing  
and installing plenum chamber cover.  
NOTICE  
Risk of crushing injury from moving and rotating components  
of wiper mounting.  
– Do not hold wiper mounting in area of rotating parts.  
– Unscrew bolts -1-.  
– Disconnect electrical connector -2-.  
– Remove rear window wiper motor -3-.  
Installing  
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:  
– If the wiper motor has been renewed, conclude the test plan  
for the renewal of the wiper motor using ⇒ Vehicle diagnostic  
tester.  
Tightening torques  
♦ ⇒ Rep. gr. 92; Adjusting wiper arms  
♦ ⇒ Rep. gr. 92; Assembly overview - windscreen wiper sys‐

Coding wiper motor  
When installing the wiper arm to the wiper motor, the self-lock‐  
ing function of the wiper motor must be switched on. To ensure  
this, the wiper motor must be coded.  
Note  
It is not possible to deactivate the self-locking function.

Note  
For a new wiper motor and for a wiper motor whose self-locking  
function has been activated, the self-locking function is auto‐  
matically deactivated after 100 wipe cycles.  
– Code wiper motor using ⇒ Vehicle diagnostic tester.  
2.8  
Removing and installing rain and light  
sensor [G397]  
The rain and light sensor -G397- withhumidity sender for air  
conditioning system -G260- and sunlight penetration photosen‐  
sor -G107- will henceforth be referred to as “rain and light sen‐  
sor”.  
If the rain and light sensor is exchanged and renewed with  
a rain and light sensor that has a different part number, the  
new rain and light sensor must be coded using the ⇒ Vehicle  
diagnostic tester.  
Determine the correct rain and light sensor using the ⇒ Elec‐  
tronic parts catalogue (ETKA).  
Removing  
– Removing interior mirror ⇒ General body repairs, interior;  
Rep. gr. 68; Interior mirror; Removing and installing interior  
mirror.  
– Release retaining clip -1- at -arrows-.  
NOTICE  
Risk of damage to silicone layer of rain and light sensor.  
– Wait for at least 1 minute after releasing the retaining clip.  
– Starting from top, carefully lever rain and light sensor -2- out  
of retaining frame on windscreen.  
– Disconnect electrical connector -3-, and remove rain and  
light sensor -2-.  
Installing  
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:  
– Prior to installation, thoroughly clean the surface of the wind‐  
screen in the area of the retaining frame for the rain and light  
sensor. Make sure to completely remove any silicone layer  
residue on the windscreen.  
– If the surface of the silicone layer on the rain and light sen‐  
sor is soiled, it may be cleaned by sticking on and then  
pulling off one or more adhesive strips.
