Electrical system - Edition 02.2021  
– Use a commercially available plastic wedge to unclip trim  
-1-.  
– Disconnect electrical connector -2-.  
– Secure display unit for driver information system against fall‐  
ing out.  
– Unscrew bolts -1-.  
– Remove display unit for driver information system.  
Installing  
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:  
Tightening torques  
♦ ⇒ Rep. gr. 90; Assembly overview – control unit with display  
unit for driver information system

head-up display [J898]  
Special tools and workshop equipment required  
♦ Torque screwdriver -V.A.G 1624-  
The control unit for head-up display -J898- will henceforth be  
referred to as “control unit for head-up display”.  
The dynamic light strip 1 for information in dash panel -L385-  
will henceforth be referred to as “dynamic light strip”.  
If the control unit for head-up display is renewed, perform the  
test plan for the renewal of the control unit for head-up display  
using ⇒ Vehicle diagnostic tester.  
Removing  
– Remove windscreen ⇒ General body repairs, exterior; Rep.  
gr. 64; Windscreen; Removing and installing windscreen.

– Remove dynamic light strip ⇒ a2.12 nd installing dynamic  
light strip 1 for information in dash panel [L385]”, page 124 .  
– Remove head-up display cover ⇒ General body repairs, inte‐  
rior; Rep. gr. 70; Dash panel; Removing and installing dash  
panel trim.  
– Place dash panel insulation to one side.  
– Cover control unit for head-up display -1- with a soft cloth.  
– Unscrew bolts -arrows-.  
– Remove control unit for head-up display -1- until the electri‐  
cal connectors are accessible.  
– Disconnect electrical connectors.  
– Remove control unit for head-up display -1-.  
Installing  
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:  
If the control unit for head-up display has been renewed.  
– On new part, unscrew bolts -2-.  
– Remove actuator plates -3- from control unit for head-up  
display -1-.  
Note  
These work steps are necessary to avoid calibration of the con‐  
trol unit for head-up display.

NOTICE  
Risk of damage to control unit for head-up display.  
– Never apply pressure to the upper part of the housing  
when inserting.  
– Should a control unit for head-up display fall down, it must  
be renewed.  
– Insert control unit for head-up display -1-.  
– Connect electrical connectors.  
– Tighten bolts -arrows-.  
– Position windscreen and secure it temporarily with adhesive  
tape – do not bond it in yet.  
– Switch on ignition.  
– Perform functional check.  
– Install windscreen ⇒ General body repairs, exterior; Rep.  
gr. 64; Windscreen; Removing and installing windscreen.  
– Calibrate control unit for head-up display ⇒ Rep. gr. 90;  
Calibrating control unit for head-up display [J898].  
Tightening torques  
Continue installation in reverse order of removal, observing the  
following:  
♦ ⇒ Rep. gr. 90; Assembly overview – head-up display
